pluralism (like solidarity) is not supposed to be an easy, light affair. it’s not just an extra letter you add to a word to make it seem like you’re considering multiple perspectives. pluralism is a political arena. filled with historical conflict, ambivalence and unbalanced power relations. and any invocation of pluralism that ignores this should be criticized accordingly. for one, as to not let it get to the point where liberals use the word with impunity while supporting practices that actively destroy what it means. and so conservatives and fascists alike can’t point to it as a buzzword of “what’s wrong with society”, since it’s become so watered down that even those who don’t think for themselves can grasp, reduce and twist it to become their scapegoat. make no mistake, radical pluralism is an actual enemy of all those named just now[^1]. which is why those on the sides of pluralism should protect and defend its use fiercely.
[^1]: liberals, conservatives and fascists are not dumb, just unoriginal.
